Stage 07: Bourg en Bresse - Grand Bornand

The First Real Climb of the Race
Today was the first real mountain day and things are finally starting to happen. The big climb, 16k long was 10k from the end of the race. The peloton broke apart, but not quite as much as one would have thought. Linus Gerdemann from T-Mobile, previously unknown to most people, was in a break early in the race and then took off by himself on the Col de la Colombiere. He took the stage and now has the yellow jersey.

Hassles of following the race: I got stuck behind the race on the way down and the police let everyone in the street ahead of the journalists trying to get to the press room and the podium. Even the big double semis that take down and load all the barriers managed to get ahead of us. What a mess!
