Stage 05: Chablis - Autun

The race from the back seat of a motorcycle
Today was just a hint of what's coming in a few days when we finally hit the Alps. It was small hills and one category 2 climb, but the steepness was only around 3.4%. Two French cyclists, Sylvain Chavanel and Philippe Gilbert escaped and were together on the top of the last climb, about 10k from the finish. The peloton caught them on the way down and Tosatto from Liquigas took the stage. Tomorrow is another relatively flat stage, so it will be a few more days yet before the race begins to take shape. Today, Fabian Cancellara held on to the yellow jersey.
