Join us in this ongoing series as GreatOutdoors.com showcases photographer Art Wolfe's world-wide expeditions as he films his PBS series, Travels to the Edge. For this gallery, Art gives us a glimpse of the fantastic landscape and wildlife on the continent of Antarctica and the nearby Falkland Islands.
The season is a short one, but any visit to Antarctica is an unforgettable experience. Come along as GreatOutdoors.com correspondent James Martin, author/photographer of the new book Planet Ice, makes his fourth journey to the ice continent. Martin used his time there this month to monitor climate change, and to record the asounding wildlife and landscape in images
GreatOutdoors.com ski correspondent Andrew McLean ventures south to Antarctica for a fantasy trip: to ski new lines on the most remote continent on earth. With dual roles of ski talent and ski guide for the Warren Miller crew, Andrew sees it all and writes a riveting account of good weather, great skiing, luxury touring and and even medical emergencies on this once in a lifetime adventure.
The release of the long-awaited book, Planet Ice, marks the end of a three year effort by writer and photographer James Martin. Martin, who blogged exclusively for GreatOutdoors.com for the past three years as he traveled from the Himalaya to Antarctica, from Africa’s Mountains of the Moon to Alaska, photographing the Earth’s changing climate, reflects on the scope of the project, and his motivations for doing it.
James Martin, writing exclusively for GreatOutdoors.com as he photographs and researches his book, Planet Ice, has been busy documenting the vanishing ice around the world. His new book includes essays by Yvonne Chouinard and others.
