Online retailer Altrec.com moves in to the brick and mortar arena with the opening of the GreatOutdoors store in Bend

Online retailer Altrec.com opened its first GreatOutdoors retail store in Bend, Oregon, in mid-October. The venue highlights the unique arrangement between the Altrec.com warehouse and the store, resulting in what amounts to the largest selection of outdoor gear and clothing in Central Oregon. Customers will be able to try on and examine the latest gear, clothing and outerwear in the store. To ensure availability of just the right size and color, the entire inventory of Altrec's vast warehouse will be available to store customers for overnight delivery. Sports categories include snowboarding, skiing, running, camping, hiking and more.

The GreatOutdoors store marks a new day for online retailing giant Altrec.com, said founder Mike Morford.

“As a local internet company, we’re excited to have a store to connect with our customers and to service the active lifestyle needs of the Bend community,” said Morford, an Oregon native. “We get to live the lifestyle that Bend has to offer and we want to help facilitate those activities with the best performance gear and clothing at affordable prices.”

The store, GreatOutdoors by Altrec.com, opened it's doors for the first time on October 7th, but the official grand opening was the weekend November 11, said store manager Al Quinn. A veteran Northwest outdoor gear retailer, Quinn is the former owner of Seattle’s Sturtevant’s Sports and Portland’s Signal Sports. “We’re fired up to bring knowledgeable service to meet the technical needs of the active Bend community," Quinn said, adding that it's the innovative approach to retailing that customers will find unique.

"The big deal here," Quinn said, "is that we’re going to do our best to have the largest and most complete assortment possible so people can walk in and walk out with exactly what they want. But if customers can't find the exact color or size they want, they can pick up one of the in-store I-Pads and have the precise size and color of any item sent to the store--or even to their house--the very next day. It’s unique in retail. If they order by closing time it will be in the store by six a.m.the next day. This is a chance to take advantage of Altrec’s huge inventory, just a few miles away in the Redmond warehouse. It’s like having a store with 80,000 items, and all the top name brands."

GreatOutdoors.com, one of North America's premier sites for adventure content, has served for more than a decade as the content side of Altrec.com. Editor Peter Potterfield said today, "With the opening of the new store in Bend, GreatOutdoors moves to a new level, and takes on a more tangible presence, even for our long term readers."

For those readers who live in Central Oregon, the GreatOutdoors store is located at 320 SW Century Park in Bend (near Pilot Butte West and the Westside Starbucks, next to the Safeway). The grand opening of the store in mid November will feature presentations by local skiers and renowned outdoor athletes.
