Golden Gate's Tiburon Loop

By David Nelson - August 2nd, 2000

Even if you have done it hundreds of times, there is something magic about bicycling across the Golden Gate Bridge. Everyone should have the experience at least once. But keep your eyes on the wide walkway while riding, because you'll encounter two major obstacles: pedestrians and world-class wind.

Take a break from the pedaling for the great view of the City by the Bay.

Once across the bridge, the route follows a combination of bike path and streets on a meandering journey through marvelous Marin. Because of potentially heavy auto traffic, it is advisable to use the bike paths, where possible.

Paradise Drive hugs the coastline of the bay on the leg from Corte Madero to Tiburon and is the best cycling section of the ride. Plan a stop for lunch in Tiburon, where restaurants are numerous and the bay panorama is easy on the eyes.

Cycling in the Bay area is wonderful year-round, but don't forget your rain gear.
