Stay tuned during April and May as six time Everest summitter andnoted mountaineering journalist Dave Hahn reports in daily from Mount Everest via satellite telephone. A member of the 2006 International Mountain Guides Everest Expedition, Hahn will give frequent updates of the climbing action, as well as send digital images and even digital video from the slopes of the world's highest mountain.
With six ascents of Everest, Hahn is in the same league as Pete Athans and Ed Viesturs, pretty good company indeed. Hahn has climbed Everest three times from the South Side, via the South Col, and three times from the North Side, via the Northeast Ridge, so nobody knows the mountain better than him.
Hahn has not only climbed Everest multiple times, he successfully has guided numerous clients to the top, a job that gives him special insight into the realities of climbing Everest in 2006.
"The truth is," said Hahn, "guiding is more difficult than climbing. And I like that. I guess I like the combination and the variety that comes with it, but I do enjoy the challenge of guiding, of trying to help somebody safely reach a lifelong goal that might be out of reach if they were left to their own devices."
Hahn will be assisted by Expedition leader Mark Tucker and IMG director, Eric Simonson, who both will contribute additional reports as the expedition works higher on the mountain.
