Changing Seasons

The Photography of Ralph Lee Hopkins
By Ralph Lee Hopkins - May 5th, 2000

As summer fades and autumn gains momentum, Colorado's aspen trees ignite in one of nature's great spectacles, offering a smorgasbord for the senses and the camera lens.

Summer's muted greens take on the first hint of yellow edging. Gradually the low angle of the late summer sun sets the leaves ablaze in a dazzling show of yellow, gold, and orange.

Wind arrives ahead of the first snow. The trees quake and shiver, sending the leaves wafting one by one to the forest floor. Over night, the quiet stillness of winter's blanket arrives, and the trees are laid bare. Time to stoke the fire - the change of seasons is complete.
