Perfect Conditions Now for Summit Bid
By Ed Viesturs - May 18th, 2009 9:31 am GMT -0700
Hey everyone. It’s Ed Viesturs calling from Camp IV. It’s about 10:00pm on the 18th. And we’re about an hour away from departing. The weather’s been phenomenal.
The winds have died. There’s a few slight breezes of wind here and there, but it looks to be an almost perfect night to go for the summit. We expect about an eight hour ascent to the top and anywhere from 12 to 14 hour round trip. Due to the wind and cold up higher I do not plan to make any calls along the way. It’s just going to be too hard and too time consuming and so I’m going to focus on the climb. And I’ll give you a call when we get back here to Camp IV and let you know how it all shakes out. So pretty exciting stuff. We’re just drinking some tea here and snacking a little bit, getting our gear ready and we should be climbing by 11:00pm Nepal time. Thanks for checking in and Ed Viesturs signing out for Greatoutdoors.com
Good luck!!
Great news about the conditions!! Wish I was there with you (with oxygen mind you).

The waiting paid off!
Climbing Mt. Rainier with you last summer was truly a highlight of my life. All of us who have followed your brilliant career continue to be inspired by your approach to climbing and the exemplary life you lead.

All the Best!!!!
Just wanted to wish you and your team all the best on your summit attempt. I look forward to hearing how it went. I'm your age, so I have tremendous admiration for what you have done and what you are attempting to do now with a few more gray hairs!

WOO HOO!!!
Go Ed and the rest of the team!! You are all inspirations to many people on many different levels. It is so exciting that your conditions are perfect and I can only imagine how it feels to be there.
I have never climbed but I can only imagine what it must feel like to conquer a mountain such as Everest, much less for the 7th time!!
Ed, you are an awesome, brave individual and that is very much an understatement. Thank you for allowing people like me to follow your expedition, it is really exciting to read about it all.
Looking forward to hearing about your journey when you write again from Camp IV.
By the way, you must be out of your mind!! :o)
