Poor Visibility and Heavy Snow at Camp I

By Dave Hahn - May 4th, 2008 5:05 pm GMT -0700

Via Satellite Phone - LISTEN IN!

GO this is Dave Hahn and I'm up and Camp I almost 20000 feet in the Western Cwm with Nicky Messner and Sanduk Dorje and my good friend Kurt Wedberg is up here as well. We are the sole occupants of our Camp I up here we came up this morning left camp about 20 minutes to five, just as it was getting light enough to see, and worked our way up through the icefall and got up here before the heat was too bad this morning and then it started snowing,  and it snowed all day, and we haven't had much  weather like this, we had a few snow showers down at base camp the last couple of days, but those were the first. Up here at Camp I really poor visibility and pretty steady snow all day long so we're  hearing the avalanches rip off the walls around us, off of Nuptse and the West Shoulder of Everest, kind of interesting to see what it will do. I'm not minding the snow all that much,  I'm hoping it's coating the icy Lhotse Face we've been staring at, just blue ice, but now it will be white and we'll see if this snow stick to it, it could make climbing when we do get to climb up that way a whole lot easier and safer if we can get some snow coating that blue ice, and as well could make the upper mountain a little better too, but who knows what's going to happened with jet stream winds when they come back whether they clean all that new snow off. Anyway, I'll let you know what goes on and all from Camp I. Bye

Dan Allen on the Mountain

The last word we got was that Dan Allen's team is at C3, but none of the mainstream media confirms this. Is there anyone or any way on the mountain to get information?
