Restrictions on Satellite Communications Interrupt Dispatches

Dispatches from Dave Hahn and the International Mountain Guides Everest Expedition have been temporarily interrupted due to an unprecedented communications black out imposed by the Nepalese government. Because of political tensions in Tibet surrounding the 2008 Olympic Games in China, Nepalese authorities have restricted the use of satellite telephones this year on Everest, at least for the present. Eric Simonson, IMG director, reports from Seattle that The team members are all at Base Camp and all's well. The Icefall is almost fixed and the IMG climbers are waiting for the green light to start sending loads up. Team members have gone up partway for practice on ladders, etc. More information will follow as the government allows. Stand by for updates as soon as they are permitted by Nepalese army officers at Everest Base Camp.
