We appreciate all the work that Brian and Kevin, along with Karen and Mike have done to raise awareness and money for ALS on behalf of Team Blazeman.  Thanks to the Duffy's for supporting 2175 for ALS by pursuing news contacts and helping to bring this story into the public eye. Ben and Rick hope to meet the Duffy family on their trek up North. Thanks to you Team Duffy!  *OnWard Ho!Team 2175       Our Story    In December of 2005, our son, Brian Duffy watched the NBC broadcast of the Ironman World Championship where Jonathan Blais –a teacher and multi-sport athlete- became the first and only person with ALS to finish an Ironman triathlon. Being a triathlete himself, Brian, at the age of 12, was motivated to help Jon “Blazeman” Blais raise awareness and money to find a cure for Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Brian started what has now become a family mission to end ALS. His first fundraising campaign was a letter asking friends and family to sponsor his triathlons for 2006. Brian had the idea to host a community 5K road race. The Run for Life 5K – A Race to End Lou Gehrig’s Disease has raised nearly $18,000 in its first two years. May 2, 2009 is the date for our 3rd Annual road race that benefits the Emory ALS Center in Atlanta, GA. Kevin, our younger son, is a golfer. When he saw how the community responded to help families living with ALS, he too became inspired. Kevin asked how he can help. He now sells Driving 4 Life golf balls that benefit the ALS Therapy Development Institute. . In addition to the events we host in Georgia we are members of Team Blazeman, a nationwide team of multi-sport athletes who raise awareness and funds to support the War on ALS. The funds that we raise through Team Blazeman benefit the Blazeman Foundation for ALS. We support the ALS Association of Georgia by volunteering, donating and participating in their events such as the Walk to Defeat ALS.   Visit Team Duffy at CureforALS.com Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} Team Blazeman   The Blazeman Foundation for ALS was created in 2006 to help raise awareness and much needed funds for ALS medical research. The foundation encourages, recruits, and supports endurance athletes all over the world to join Team Blazeman and battle together as Blazeman Warriors in the “War On ALS.” Team Blazeman is a nationwide team of multi-sport athletes who compete for a cause larger than themselves. Members of Team Blazeman, known as Blazeman Warriors, help carry out the mission of The Blazeman Foundation for ALS by raising awareness about ALS as they train and race and by committing to attainable fundraising objectives to support cutting-edge scientific research to find the causes and a cure for ALS. Blazeman Warriors keep the spirit of Jon Blais alive. They show others, and discover themselves, that failure is not an option and to never give up. For that reason, Blazeman Warriors achieve success and fulfillment in their multi-sport endeavors that they never dreamed possible. Many Blazeman Warriors commemorate Jon’s 2005 Ironman finish by rolling across the finish line to the cheers of spectators, a gesture that has come to symbolize the War on ALS. The Blazeman Foundation for ALS uses all funds to support established ALS research foundations to enhance their important efforts in finding a cure and effective treatments for ALS.
