Dispatch 28: Dave Decides to Stay on Everest

GreatOutdoors, this is Dave Hahn, and I'm at Base Camp again. As I mentioned yesterday, Larry has been gone about a day now. Yesterday was a pretty eventful day on the mountain, obviously for me, with Larry going home, although we had talked about that for a few days. But as we were coming down the mountain, going through the Icefall, we heard the news on the radio that a Sherpa from another team had been killed on the Lhotse Face and the details aren't completely clear. It wasn't an accident to my knowledge and not our team, but it sobered everybody up just the same. We're all aware that it's dangerous climbing here but we don't really like getting reminders of it. So unfortunately. . . . satellite transmission fails . . . most likely go up and try and climb the mountain but certainly not before it's time. You know, I guess I'll plan on being here as much of the next month as it takes, as usual. But I do think I'll stay, and I do think I'll climb but it certainly has taken the wind out of my sails a little bit. OK, bye for now.
