Northwest Snowboarding

1/4/06 - Ed Shultz

I enjoyed yuor article on were to learn to snowboard in the Northwest although you failed to mention any Eastern Washington Hills. Big resorts are corprate owned which is good for for growth and real estate sales but most smaller hills are family owned or non-profit and could use mentioning and any support. Kudos for mentioning Anthony Lakes (Mt. Baker is already World famous). If your in Eastern Washington check Mission Ridge, 49 Degrees North and Mt. Spokane. I just found your site and have bookmarked it, Keep up the good work.

Travel Articles

2/25/05 - Brett

You have some wonderful articles on international travel. I especially enjoyed reading about Sweden. I recommend that you travel to the beautiful country of Armenia. This country, located in the southern Caucuses, offers some of the most beautiful hikes and hospitable people you'll ever encounter.

The video footage is great stuff, just add more of it. Maybe some information on how to get involved in some of the newer sports.

Lynn Hill

12/13/04 - Ed Spat

Hi, I enjoyed your article about Lynn Hill.

However, I must say that I think it is an exaggeration to say that she has "... a record of ascents unrivalled by any other rock climber", as you do in the introduction on your home page. The sport has too deep a history and too wide an arena to make such a claim.

She is undeniably a top climber and interesting enough that you should not need to resort to hyperbole to get readers interested.

Other than that, thanks for a great article about a great climber.

Range Creek

8/10/04 - Patrick Jenkins

I have mixed emotions about Range Creek, it was a yearly outing to hike over the mountain and spend at least one nite at Range Creek. At one time you could drive there and picnic, fish. But Wilcox locked the gates, thus locking out thousands of acres of PUBLIC ground. At one time in the 50s the Sheriff of Carbon County removed the lock as the road was county, but soon a lock was replaced. Im sure that the hunters that paid Wilcox for the grain fed deer that were shot on the ranch, helped themselfs to artifacts. The coffie table at the upper ranch did sport artifacts. The Wilcoxs went so far as to not let their neighbors thru the gate to their property. The gate was not locked to protect the artifacts. I agree that Budge would have been responsible for the lockup, the creek was stocked with trout by the Utah Fish and Game. One time we were fishing the creek and Budge came along and said were going to have to pay for the fat we run off of his cows. We had not seen a cow. Waldo is no hero, or protector of the area. Only for his own finiancial gain. There is no way of telling how much his cows grazed on public land. I am however glad that the artifacts have been preserved.

Range Creek: As a young man I grew up in Sunnyside, just over the mountain from the Wilcox Ranch on Range Creek and worked with Waldo Wilcox in the hayfields. The recent publicity concerning the findings of treasures from the past is truly fascinating to me because I was raised in the area. Hopefully a means of protecting the discovery will truly safeguard the treasures for the general public. Inasmuch as I am familiar with the family, I think it is interesting Waldo seems to be a hero for disclosing this to the public, after keeping those gates locked for so many years. In reality it was Budge Wilcox who probably was the one responsible for assembling the ranch. And credit should also go to Pearl, Waldo's mother and a member of a ranching family operating in the area for years preceding the Wilcox family. While I didn't see all of the ruins and artifacts being found, I was aware of some of them and had observed some during the two summers I worked there. No doubt it is a great discovery and will be handled in a fashion beneficial to us all.
